Immigration Physical Q & A

What is an immigration physical?

An immigration physical is a comprehensive physical exam Dr. Modi or Dr. Parihar completes to ensure you’re healthy and meet the physical and mental health requirements necessary to obtain a Green Card or U.S. citizenship.

Express Family Clinic is authorized by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) to offer immigration physicals and can complete the paperwork necessary for your application.

What should I bring to my appointment?

When you arrive at your immigration physical appointment, bring with you the following:

  • A government-issued photo ID
  • Previous vaccination records
  • A list of your current medication or lab tests
  • A form of payment
  • Form I-693, Report of Medical Examination and Vaccination Record

Be prepared to answer questions about your personal and family medical history during your physical.

What happens during an immigration physical?

After checking your weight, blood pressure, pulse, and other vital signs and discussing your medical history and symptoms, Dr. Modi or Dr. Parihar completes the physical exam portion of your appointment.

They evaluate your eyes, ears, throat, breathing, abdomen, and heart rate to detect or rule out signs of an illness or disease. Your doctor might evaluate your mental health by asking you a series of questions.

They test you for syphilis, tuberculosis, gonorrhea, and other communicable diseases using blood tests, skin tests, tissue swabs, or X-rays. If you need certain vaccinations, your provider can administer missing vaccines by injection.

What happens after my physical examination?

After your physical examination and the results of any diagnostic tests come back, Dr. Modi or Dr. Parihar lets you know if treatment for an illness or disease can benefit you.

If you pass the immigration physical with a clean bill of health, they complete Form I-693 and seal the results in an envelope so you can submit it to USCIS along with your Green Card or U.S. citizenship application. Avoid opening the envelope or altering it in any way prior to submission.
