What is Urgent Care?
Urgent care is medical care that is available for walk-in patients outside of regular office hours to address their urgent medical needs. The doctors at Express Family Medical Clinic provide care and treatments for patients to protect and maintain their health and well-being. Patients are seen on a walk-in basis for ambulatory care.
What Conditions Does Urgent Care Treat?
Patients seek urgent care treatments for a number of illnesses and injuries that need to be addressed immediately but are not serious enough to require a trip to the emergency room. Many parents bring their children to urgent care when an illness and fever come on suddenly or for injuries such as sprains, tears, and minor fractures. Conditions like the flu, asthma attacks, cuts needing stitches, urinary tract infections, or skin rashes and infections can also be treated in an urgent care setting. If the doctor finds that a patient’s condition is more serious or requires treatment not available at the urgent care center, the patient will be sent to an emergency room for more specialized treatment.
How Do I Know If I Need Urgent Care or an Emergency Room?
While both urgent care and emergency care indicate a need for quick medical attention, urgent care is an alternative to the services of your normal doctor when he or she is not available. Emergency rooms are designed to provide 24-hour medical care for complex or critical medical situations. If you experience any of the following symptoms, you should go immediately to the nearest emergency room:
- Chest pain
- Difficulty breathing
- Severe pain, particularly in the abdomen
- Sudden fainting, loss of balance, weakness, or paralysis
- Sudden vision changes
- Infants with fevers over 100F
- Severe fevers in adults, especially if accompanied by a rash
- Serious burns
- Vaginal bleeding during pregnancy
